Moving house can be a stressful experience, and keeping track of everything you need to do can become confusing as you get closer to the date. To make the process easier for you, we’ve created a simple checklist so you can ensure you’ve completed every step of your move successfully.
Have you discontinued these services:
- Milk delivery
- Bread delivery
- Newspaper delivery
- Phone
- Gas/Electricity
- Water
- Fuel & oil
Have you notified:
- The post office for mail redirection
- Your bank
- The electoral office
- Department of Transport (car, truck, bike licence etc.)
- Your insurance company
- Children’s school
- Any companies or stores where you have accounts
- Hire purchase companies
Have you also:
- Defrosted your fridge
- Cleaned old medicine bottles, & similar, out of bathroom cabinets
- Put aside bits & pieces you want to take
- Drained any fuel from mowers & other tools
Things not to do:
- Don’t put breakables in drawers
- Don’t overload cabinets & drawers with linen, clothes etc.
- Don’t store perishable goods

Last look around:
- Anything left behind
- Water heater turned off
- Taps turned off
- All lights & power points switched off
- Gas stoves & taps turned off
- Old house keys surrendered
